Hello, I'm new to forum. I purchased a vepr12 about a year ago. I decided to upgrade the handguard. The competition style at Dissident Arms seemed cool, but too pricey right now. So I found ar10 handguard on ebay for cheap. It working out great so far. I'm excited about it and have to share the build. Looks awesome. I 'll show y'all soon.

Welcome to the forum! Nice job on the V12! There's nothing wrong with saving some money when you can.

here are some pics of the project. if anyones interested in building this also, you can find it on eBay as of 11/16/2018.https://www.ebay.com/itm/308-15-Extra-L ... 2749.l2649

(No guaratees on the strength of hand guard as of now. I haven't operated it yet with it on there but it seems pretty strong.

update.....I went out and put 80 rnds thru it this late afternoon. Shot mostly walmart box birdshot , some s&b buck (man that stuffs dirty) and 3 federal slugs. i had a stove pipe with the 7.5 shot and it might have to do with shooting those 15 rnds of s&b buck . It could be a mag issue still though . Anyway, the Hand Guard held up great. Solid feel . and my range neighbors lit up with a smile ( showing off the hot rod) . My performance upgrades are the jt guide rod, jt front recoil spring and ALG trigger from 4 range. i also tuned up my 2 sgm mags , one better than the other. This shotgun is really fun to shoot. :D

the brass screws on the retainer (goes at rear on receiver side) angle up a bit into that little bit of aluminum with pilot holes drilled and they grab just enough metal to snug it all together while jb weld epoxy (original formula) set up. The aluminum piece was from a piece of L channel that I had laying around (I cut it on table saw) . I pretty much free handed everything ( see how rough it is) lol. I plunge and side cut the slot on drill press . I pretty much followed dissidents retainer design (kinda sorta) with a cleaner look.. The magwell t bolt sits in the slot.

The hand guard doesn't sit absolutely perfect around front of barrel , but its pretty close. i was in a hurry to get it done. I'm happy with how it turned out considering the cost and the satisfaction i now have from making it fit on my own.

Well that's certainly creative. Would love to see more pics. Is that mount near the magwell the only thing holding it on? I can't tell.

the main attachment point is at the original factory hand guard retainer. ( mid barrel ) Almost all the holding power is at that anchor. See above pic that has the 2 silver colored screws.(its has now been painted black) . you can see the aluminum part/ round piece that came out of the eBay HG /deco end cap ... when i made that U cut. I drilled the hand guard for a screw hole and it threads into that piece bolted to original retainer . all pieces got used. hope that makes cents for ya now.

It looks like your optic is mounted to a rail on your gas tube. How did you do this? I have the rail that goes into the rear sight post from CSS. I don’t like it because it sits up very high.
