Perhaps it is better to modify the magazines rather than the VEPR. There are a few DIY how to's on Youtube

even magpul says to wait on buying that mag, as the second version will have proper steel inserts.

Ooooooooooooh. I may actually pick up a couple then. I've been thinking about picking up some 7.62 circle 10s for a while now.

It's about time some US company started making plastic mags with steel inserts.

For what it's worth, I spoke to a tech at Promag over the phone. He stated that their mags will NOT run in VEPR unless there is a bullet guide drilled and tapped in to the rifle.

SGM has a Vepr 762x39 30 round magazine for the Vepr it has a last round bolt hold open built in to the follower. There is no filing of anything required.

The bolt hold open feature on the SGM mags is nice. The mags funtion flawlessly and you can still use the factory mags to hunt with . Alot of states have magazine limits while hunting. If your bench shooting the smaller mags are nice to have too

There is a 15 round ak47 mag on this page in black or tan with a 20.00$ price tag
http://www.colddeadhands.com/accessories.html
Idk how to order them, maybe its just my browser. These more then likely need the same adjustments that surplus mags need to work in ur vepr's but im sure they would make anyone from NJ (like me) or Colorado a very happy person :D

I bought a Vepr rifle and found that the Saiga mags do work. I know for sure the 7.62x39 mags are interchangeable
without any modding. I went to the range with Vepr 10 round and a 5 round mags and two 10 round mags. Both feed great. I did notice that the Izmash mags have a metal rear tab insted of the normal poly.
I love both my Vepr 12 and my 7.62 x 39 rifle. And I love that they share some parts. :D
