My bolt on my VEPR-12 feels like its hitting on the recoil spring guard assembly and leaving a scratch on the bolt to boot. Any Ideas?
This is my first post so don't beat me if my pics do not post correctly.

Welcome to the forum! The pics didn't open up but that's OK.You must be referring to the contact between recoil spring guard and top of the bolt carrier. The bolt rides in the carrier underneath. That is normal wear. The recoil spring guard is really not necessary from what I understand. The only AKs I've ever owned that have that extra part are the Veprs.

I appreciate your reply, what you said sounds spot on and I already yanked that cover out of the gun.
Now I get to figure out a way to cover that scratch. Think rustolium maybe. You would not happen to know what the Russians used on this? It’s my first VEPR and my first shotgun

Welcome!

I'd leave that part in there. AKs are meant to have scratches and rub marks to show they aren't safe queens. The scratches are a sign of how rugged they are. Rubs and scratches will be on any AK you see, if it's been run as it ought. ;)

I agree with Neph. Don't worry about internal finish wear. Structural wear would be a different story. The AK platform is designed to be abused and will take a beating as long as gun is heat treated and assembled properly. With confidence you can run Molot builds very hard. I ran a V12 over 1500 rounds without cleaning it once. Externally you can touch up scratches with a Birchwood Casey Super Black Gloss marker for a decent match. The more you shoot them the smoother the actions will get .Although its not really necessary , alot of new owners will polish the internals ,removing alot of the OEM paint from rails and bolt carrier anyways.Enjoy your new shotgun and run that beast hard.

Make sure the rivet from the top of the receiver is flush with the cover. Had to cut one down that was dragging on top of the bolt.

Saiga-12's have that guard as well.
